Your website should also have lots of streaming audio and/or videos, so potential customers can hear your sound conveniently from their computer. Saves everyone a lot of time and hassle.

Also on your website: lists of other weddings you've done (get permission from the brides); reviews and press releases; lists of your instruments and specialties; where your band can be seen live; your musical education and experience; and anything that "brands" you.

Your DVD demo must be top quality audio with a professional looking label, enclosed in a jewel-box that also has a design label. Your labels should reflect your "brand" - be it a logo, a color scheme, a saying - whatever you've chosen.

Following are some excellent examples of wedding singers' websites. Some are intricate, some are quite simple. The Rick Levine Band at http://www.thericklevineband.com/, Larry Eckerling at http://www.larryeckerling.com/, David Rothstein Music at http://drsmusic.com/, Bock & Blu at http://www.bockandblu.com/, Heartbeat at http://www.heartbeatdanceband.com/, Jeff Sandler Orchestra at http://www.jeffsandlerorchestra.com/, G Force at http://www.gforceband.com/, and Spoiled Rotten at http://spoiledrottenmusic.com/.

A website is easy to create - so please don't spend a lot of money. See Website - Do It Yourself at http://www.website-doityourself.com for any website creation information you need. Totally free.

Networking

Another advantage of doing local weddings (You may define local any way you want. In Texas, "local" means Austin, Dallas, and Houston! - In New York, you'll barely have to leave the city, except for an occasional trek into the Connecticut suburbs.) is that you have easier access to one-on-one networking. Here's what you need to do, to be sure you get the gigs:

1. Make a list of all the wedding planners in your area, and arrange to meet with each, one-on-one. If you get to know the wedding planners, you may not need an agent. Do the same with florists, wedding photographers, caterers, and bridal show event planners.

2. Make a list of appropriate agents in your area, and meet them as well. Only sign with an agent you feel good about, who is on the same page as you, and who has a long and reputable history of booking good and steady gigs. Make sure your contract allows you to book your own gigs, just in case the agent doesn't get you enough.

3. After each networking meeting (if you are happy with the meeting), remember to give them a copy of your demo and business card. As with all networking, follow up the meeting with a thank you note and another business card.
