Boost Your Power with Mobile Networking

Although I advocate joining just one or two business, social, or niche networking sites, there is another type of website that allows you to use your chosen networking style with more power. It's called mobile networking, and most of it is free. Amazing, right? You can enhance any of your networking activities with mobile networking. It simply allows you to contact people more quickly, to get groups mobilized almost instantaneously, and to let others know where you are. women money business Internet networkingYou can work these sites from your cell phone, Blackberry, or whatever cutting edge concoction you've got in your possession. (Although you can still use a plain old-fashioned computer.)

These sites can be used on their own, or in conjunction with any networking site you have joined:

Twitter is what's called a "micro-blogging" social networking site. If you need to keep up with people quickly, organize events on the spur of the moment, or keep instantly updating business colleagues, Twitter is for you. The site describes them as a "service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?" (http://twitter.com)

Moco Space is specifically for the cyber-mobile among us. Based in the U.S., it has over 2 million registered users, all of whom use their mobile pyrotechniques to communicate. It's called a "mobile social network." (www.mocospace.com)

Pownce, also a micro-blogging  network, "is a way to keep in touch with and share stuff with your friends. Send people files, links, events, and messages and then have real conversations with the recipients," they say on their site. (http://pownce.com/)

Plurk. Meant to be a quicker, easier way to keep up with people and keep them up to date with you. "Plurk is an easy way to chronicle and share the things you do, the way you feel, and all the other things in between that make up your life, with the people close to you," they say on their site. You can work put your messages on the site itself, or through instant or text messaging. (http://www.plurk.com/)

Tumblr. If you're wary of micro-blogging and would prefer to simply pick up the telephone, wait! Try Tumblr first. It's about the easiest one to use that I've found. (http://www.tumblr.com/)

My Say. Did I say telephone? It's true you can find ANYTHING on the web! My Say gives you the option of phoning your blog or message in. (http://www.mysay.com/)

Jaiku is similar to Twitter. You can use it as your primary networking site, or use it to boost the power of your other sites, organizations, and activities. (http://www.jaiku.com/)
