The feeling of community is so important for any lifestyle. When you're a member of a group that shares your interests, goals, or way of thinking, having people around you - even if you've only "met" them in cyberspace - gives you a home. It gives you a starting point, a place to throw ideas around and share experiences. It's the safety and security on a global level that you get from, say, a family or spiritual group in your daily life.

As with all internet groups, I suggest choosing just one and working it to the max. Get to know the site, "meet" the people there, and use the site's many advantages - chats, forums, private messaging, newsletters, articles, photos and videos, and other platforms each site may have.

Here are some fabulous groups to consider:

Talopia is perfect for you if you're an artist and want to connect with other artists. They cover music, art, acting, comedy, modeling, dance, and more. (www.taltopia.com)

Advogato. Joining Advogato can make you an integral part of the free software development community and the open source movement. (http://www.advogato.org/)
